Clement Lefebvre, head of the Linux Mint project, announced the release of Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” KDE, the new LTS edition of Linux Mint 18 with KDE as a desktop environment.
Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” KDE, based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS , has been in beta until yesterday, but the ISO images for systems to 64-bit and 32-bit are available for download.
The main new features of Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” KDE, which will be supported until 2021, are:
- SDDM is the default login manager;
- Improved support for HiDPI ;
- MintUpdate has received both visual and functional improvements;
- KDE Plasma 5.6;
- Support for exFAT and Btrfs ;
- Linux kernel 4.4 (LTS).

I personally believe that this is the best KDE distribution so far, definitely better than Kubuntu and KDE Neon .
